Arrival in Australia
European wasps arrive in Australia from New Zealand. The first recorded wasps in Australia were in Sydney in 1954 on shipping freight from New Zealand. The first nests located in Hobart in 1959 (Field and Darby, 1991) Over the next twenty years found in New South Wales in 1975, Western Australia in 1977. Then Victoria in 1977, South Australia in 1978 and the Australian Capital Territory in 1984 (Lefoe et al., 2001, Crosland, 1991, Field and Darby, 1991).
